Pou Bel!

Filed under: Fun, San Francisco — soleilsundance @ 11:11 am

Check it out, a Citroën Deux-Chevaux! In San Francisco! Une “Deudeuche”! The best part is that the owner called it “Pou Bel” which is just like a “poubelle” which is a garbage dump which is a common name to refer to your car in France. You get me?
Poubelle - “Pou Bel” - ha ha!

Simple lunch

Filed under: food — soleilsundance @ 12:45 pm

For lunch, I normally get either a sandwich, a salad, sushi, Thai, Koren, Chinese, Indian, Mediterranean or on rare occasions, a pizza. I also bring leftovers from home once in a while. But what I love most, is making myself a little, simple salad.

Today, one big heirloom tomato from the farmer’s market I got yesterday, basil and Bravo Farms Gouda. I always have olive oil at my desk, as well well as salt and pepper.

And voila!

Most people who sees me prepare my little salad at work just drool over how colorful, wholesome and healthy this looks. It took me 5 minutes to prepare and cost me about $5.

I’m blogging about it while I’m eating it and I’m enjoying every bite!

Better food for our bellies

Filed under: food — soleilsundance @ 1:34 pm

I just went to the Farmer’s Market today on my lunch break because I was craving heirloom tomatoes. Turns out I came back with beautiful organic tomatoes, asparagus and peaches. Everything’s in season, everything’s delicious and I can’t wait to dig in.

I come back to work and get an email announcing our new partnership with Serious Eats. It’s a very cool food blog that I’ve been visiting on and off. I scroll down and see an entire blog post dedicated to the upcoming movie “Food,Inc“. I thought to myself… what perfect timing! I can’t wait to go see that movie. It is time to be more responsible with what we put in our bodies. The market just needs demand. Demand, people! Demand!

Paddles, camping and sore muscles

Filed under: Travel, Weekend Adventures — soleilsundance @ 6:29 pm

This has to be one of the most exciting and invigorating three-day weekend trips we’ve done. Well, on second thought, I don’t know about physically invigorating (we’re dead beat!) but definitely mentally.

We spent two days on the lower Kern river, rafting its white waters. It was our first time going down a river on a raft, getting meals prepared for us on a camping trip and sleeping with no tent! I repeat… we slept with no tent! I had some pretty bad bug phobia at first, but really, I haven’t been crawled on at all… or that I know of.

Being on the river with our amazing guide, Abby, was such a peaceful yet definitely bumpy and splashy experience. We went through some class III and IVs. I have to say, I completely got hooked on the class IVs and was begging for more.

What I’ve learned about white water rafting is that when you get into situations like this…

Not as stinky as I thought

Filed under: Fun, Weekend Adventures, food — soleilsundance @ 9:29 pm

I met, pet, scratched, got nibbled on, pushed by, climbed on, surrounded by goats for the very first time in my life (or my conscious life). I really anticipated to have to pinch my nose the whole time, but quite frankly, these cute creatures are not very stinky. Only their covered area where they eat, poop and give birth was pretty pungent, but when you look at the little “kids” faces begging for attention, you forget it all.

It was a memorable experience we had at Harley Farms last weekend. We got to tour the farm, spend time with the goat, watch the mamas get milked, see how the cheese was made and savoured a delicious dinner with a group of like-minded people.

Note the glass of wine, while petting the goats… can’t get better than that!

Simply fantastic.
