Hugs-friendly sleeping bag

Filed under: Weekend Adventures, Fun — soleilsundance @ 8:19 pm

The Selk’bag is like a bodysuit sleeping bag that keeps you warm and mobile! How cool is that?!

sleeping suit

According to summithut.com, the warmest version goes for $199, which I thought was pretty reasonable if it performs the way they say it does.

Things I’m wondering about tho:

- If it’s like toe socks, it won’t actually keep you any warmer because parts of your body generate heat when in contact with other parts of your body. Here, it wouldn’t be the case, so would you actually be warm?

- Can a girl pee behind a bush while wearing the suit?

YELLE in SF!

Filed under: music, Concerts, Fun — soleilsundance @ 8:05 pm

Last night we went to see the French rising pop star YELLE in concert at the Independant in San Francisco.

It was so much fun! It was actually a pretty big deal because her fame ranking in France is reaching pretty impressive heights and she’s broadcast on my favorite French radio, Fun Radio, that I listen to all day.

Yelle
YELLE was fun, she was cute, she was full of energy! I didn’t like all of her songs but just watching her throw her head around and make cute faces was highly entertaining. And of course I’m a big fan of her song “Je veux te voir” which seemed to be a huge hit in the audience as well, although I’m not sure more than a tenth of the bouncy people understood the very crude and quite controversial lyrics of this song. Oh well, it doesn’t matter. It was cool to see a French artist be so welcome in a foreign audience.

The Secret Garden’s nectar

Filed under: Weekend Adventures, San Francisco, Fun — soleilsundance @ 10:40 pm

This past weekend we girls (Krista, Marcia, Joy and I) went to the Secret Garden Tea House in San Francisco. We sipped on delicious tea and ate tiny food. It was delightful! It made me want to wear my British accent and get that pinky up there!

Here are a few photographic illustrations of the experience…

Note to English speakers: The French would say I have “la bouche en cul de poule“, which means “my mouth like a chicken’s ass”. This often refers to how snobby people sort of pinch their lips together and push them forward (kinda like Zoolander) because they’re uptight, which is exactly what I was trying to portray. Don’t ask me why the French language associates it to a poultry’s rectal orifice. See? I’m just not good at being girly, here I am making language comparisons involving chicken’s buttholes on an originally-intended-to-be-lovely blog post.

Gettin’ pampered

Filed under: Thought Bazaar, Fun — soleilsundance @ 9:24 pm

And so after dancing, working, hiking, working, dancing, working and dancing some more… my body kinda hurts. I was starting to get sciatic pains, my right knee was killing me when I was walking even on short distances, my neck kept getting tight. And all on the right side.

Today, I finally treated myself with a long over-due therapeutic massage. Jeff, who dug his fingers into my muscles, knew what he was doing. It wasn’t one of these relaxing, mmm, oh yes massages. It was more of an ouch, woa, man it kinda hurts in a weirdly great way massage, from a Filipino technique. He found all the spots I’ve been aching, all the muscle chains that were pulling onto each other. Sometimes it almost felt like he was digging below a group of muscles to reach other muscles. Wow!
Now, I feel opened and a little sore. We’ll see about tomorrow :)

But that’s not the end! I thought to myself… well, while I’m at it, why not get a manicure? And so I did. It’s been a year I haven’t had one. Felt sooo good! I love watching my hands now.

Look… this is me forgetting how to spell words typing this blog post with beautiful nails.

Who said I couldn’t dress up AND ride my Vespa?

Filed under: Vespa, Fun — soleilsundance @ 10:44 am

Yes, this is my helmet! YES, I rode over the Golden Gate Bridge this morning with it on!!

Pictures in action to come!

UPDATE: More Pics and a video!!!

Witch on Vespa!!!

MORE UPDATES: The real story unveilled…

As Bri commented, I failed to mention that this was NOT my Vespa, it was Justin’s. Mine is baby blue, and super hot, but not for a witch! However still, I titled the post saying “ride my Vespa”… Well, I suppose that I was such in character and needing so much black that it very much felt like my own for a minute (and it’s the same power, same model (LX150), just slightly newer…essentially the same to ride).

We wanted to dress Justin as a fairy or a princess riding my baby blue Vespa, but never got to making a costume for that. Maybe next year… as I think this one will be my recurring Vespa costume for all eternity. Why? Because I haven’t sewn this much in a verrry long time and I don’t intend to do so in a verrrry long time!

That’s right, to make the helmet wig secure, it took a lot of work. I actually wish I took photos of the step by step process because man, it was a PROCESS!

~ First, I was given a black t-shirt I could just cut and tear. This was for the base of the masterpiece. I put it over the helmet made sure it could go through the visor and under into the inside of the helmet.
~ Then I put the wig over it and stretched it tight. I sewed (by hand!!!) the entire circonference of the tightened wig onto the t-shirt.
~ Then, I took a piece of bright orange felt and figured out how to make a cone,…by trial and error. I secured it with safety pins and sewed the entire circonference of the cone hat and the seem up to its tip.
~Last, I found a jack-o-lantern witch pattern online, which I cut out into black felt and glued it on the side of the hat.
~When I was ready to ride, I left enough fabric to stay inside the helmet, so my head would act as a safety pin, but I also safety pinned it at 6 various spots on the helmet foam.

When you ride with that thing at 55mph, it definitely gives resistance and you don’t want anything to fly away or distract you from the road.
Mission accomplished!

Garden on the wall

Filed under: food, Fun, art — soleilsundance @ 11:10 am

Wow, this is brilliant! It’s an herbal shelf where you can grow your seasonal herbs on your wall!

Garden on a wall

I really love the idea that you can grow something you can then eat off of a decorative frame in your living room or kitchen. Great alternative to just having a plant in a corner!

The only challenge (for us) is to find a piece of wall getting enough sun throughout the day.
I also couldn’t quite figure out how much it costs.

Well…at least it’s my kind of humor… butts are involded :)

I saw it in on SnorgTees.com. They rock. The girls are wild. Ans so, we tried to take pics Snorg Tee style…with a big smile.
